Hot Since 82 - Live From A Pirate Ship in Ibiza
I started this blog because I watch about 8 hours of DJ mixes on YouTube every day. It's a fantastic way to both hear the new DJ mixes and watch performances. I've now seen so many that I can make a good selection of watchable videos for my followers. I will publish these here.
This is one of the videos that immediately came to mind. Most DJ mixes are at festivals or in a club, but with this video, Hot Since 82 did something cool: he created a DJ set with friends (or are these professionally hired dancers?) on a pirate ship sailing around Ibiza.
The set is great, and you keep watching the vibe and everything that's happening (you can also let your imagination run wild here).
I'd say watch and listen along with me to this set, which was posted in August 2018 but is still great to watch and already has over 19 million views!
1. Real identity & origin
- His birth name is Daley Padley.
- He was born in 1982 (16 September 1982) in South Yorkshire, England (specifically Barnsley/Athersley South estate) and is based in the UK.
- His stage name “Hot Since 82” is a nod to his birth year (1982).
2. Musical beginnings & breakout
- Daley began DJing around the age of 17, playing extended 12-13 hour sets each Sunday in his local club.
- The key moment for the “Hot Since 82” alias came in 2010: at an after-party in Ibiza when the music cut out, he plugged in his iPhone, played a track he had been working on and the crowd responded extremely well. That track (“Let It Ride”) was released on the label Noir Music and hit #3 on the Beatport deep house chart.
- From around 2011-2012 onwards, Hot Since 82 began gaining broader recognition and releasing under that moniker.
3. Style & achievements
- His style: mainly house, deep house, tech house, with strong club/underground sensibilities.
- He has released several albums and EPs; for example:
- Little Black Book (2013)
- 8-track (2019) and Recovery (2020) — the latter described as a “healing album”.
- He also launched his own record label: Knee Deep in Sound (2014) to champion underground house talent.
- Festivals, residencies & major gigs: He has held residencies in Ibiza (for example at Pacha Ibiza), and played major festivals and clubs globally.
4. Personal & contextual notes
- He grew up on a council estate in Barnsley (Athersley South). He and his siblings were exposed to lots of music at home, and his dad worked in a workshop installing sound systems — early exposure to heavy bass & club-sound sensibilities.
- In 2017, his best friend (of 15 years) died by suicide, which deeply affected him. He subsequently made the 8-track EP and the Recovery album in part as a response/healing process.
5. Why the name “Hot Since 82”?
As mentioned: the “82” refers to his birth year (1982). The “Hot Since” part is a stylistic/branding choice indicating he’s been “on the scene” (“hot”) since then (or tied to that year).
